News: Asking Prices see biggest monthly increase for 10 years!
Rightmove recently reported that new sellers increased the asking price for their property by 4.1%, which is the highest monthly increase for a decade, since April 2002 (which saw a 4.5% month on month increase). In the south east, this figure is even more encouraging, with asking prices seeing a 6.9% monthly increase – with the average house price in the South East now £303,263.
Rightmove’s Director – Miles Shipside commented “We’re seeing a strong ‘spring bounce’ in asking prices this year.. there are also indications that those who are able to buy but had previously lacked the confidence to take the plunge are of a more positive mindset this year. Perhaps some people are adjusting to the realities, opportunities and strange normality of a low volume but apparently stable property market” – this is evidenced by a 19% increase in search activity on rightmove over the same time last year in January 2011
Rightmove’s figures also show that London property prices are now within just 1% of their all time high.
It seems that there is a tangible change in the atmosphere of the market and the mood of buyers and sellers, with a great deal more intent and commitment being shown by both.
